After a nearly nine-month journey from Earth, the Mars rover is scheduled to land on the Red Planet Aug. 5, making a harrowing entry into the planet's atmosphere that project engineers call seven minutes of terror. Exciting? Sure. But to drive home the point, NASA has just released a couple of new videos featuring "Star Trek" stars William Shatner and Wil Wheaton. Because if anyone understands the challenges of space exploration, it's them, right?
In the videos below, Shatner and Wheaton -- who played Captain James T. Kirk and Wesley Crusher, respectively -- describe Curiosity's final minutes before attempting a landing, as well as the research gains to be made if the rover survives the descent.
