The Daily Rush: Kitesurfer Jumps Over Humpback Whale
The 40-foot-long creature was trapped on a sandbarA kitesurfer near the Dutch island of Texel caught more than his fair share of excitement while skimming over waves recently. While zipping along at high speeds, he jumped right over a nearly 40-foot-long humpback whale. It appeared that the whale had become stranded on a sandbar. The kitesurfer returned to shore to alert authorities, who then launched a rescue operation. Unfortunately, the whale could not be saved. "A healthy whale would not become stranded so there must have been something wrong with it," said Francine Giskes, mayor of Texel. "It is terrible to see an animal suffering before it dies and I am glad it did not take too long."
