Need to BAN all big rigs
December 21 2012 at 11:31 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWe were driving through Tennessee on our way to see family. Weather was clear. 4 land highway through Knoxville. A truck starts to pass us on the left then comes ove in our lane and proceeds to run his wheel up against our back door. We tried to keep the car on the road and honked the horn. HE came back and did the very same thing. Left a large dent in our back door - we pulled over to the side of the road and he kept going.
December 21 2012 at 9:07 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyCar was drivable so we chased him and caught up with him in a wide off road area. Got his license number and chased down a state trooper just up the road to tell him what happened. He took down all info and left to find the guy.
Bottom line:
He found out the truck was a state trucking company and all charges were dropped.
We were later told by several natives that this goes on all the time. It is a game with the drivers to see who can get the most out-of-state cars knocked off the road. Sweet - huh?
What happened to the driver. - a reprimand.
Get a clue all of you!!!! Lets bash the truckers not a one of us was there to know what even happened...Nobody should have been out driven last night, how many of you drove last night when you didn't need to?
December 20 2012 at 9:09 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyThank you for realizing that soon as accident happens everyone wants to blame the 18 wheelers the messed up thing people don't realize what 18 wheelers drivers go through were always forced by dispatch those idiots have us run illegal like hell and so on and so on
December 21 2012 at 7:57 AM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyI totally agree with you on this one! You also can't stop on a dime when a 4 wheeler cuts you off! There's a ambulance chasing law firm where I am from that advertises on tv about accidents involving trucks....like it couldn't possibly be the chick running late for work and putting on her makeup while she drives! I think it should be required as part of the licensing process to ride in a truck for a week and see just what it is like!
December 21 2012 at 8:28 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate downtruck drivers do have a so called black box it is called the obc, (peoplenet, qualcomm, etc) they monitor truck speed and all activities such as location via satellite, when the truck stops and accelerates. the obc will record all the activities 10 or more minutes prior to a sudden stop. i know this for i am a truck driver who works for a very safety conscious company. we have obc to protect us the driver from those 4 wheelers that text, do make up, brush hair, and drive as though they are invincible. sadly some so called truck drivers do the same. i drive night shift and see many of these acts. it is so crazy to see a car go past me with 4 people in it and all have their cellphones open and texting. who could they be texting if they are hanging out with each other.
December 20 2012 at 7:42 PM Report abuse Permalink +3 rate up rate down ReplySadly though, not all truck drivers have them. It would be nice if they did.
December 20 2012 at 8:01 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyYup. You are right. I think the worst thing to happen is the cellphone. They text and whatnot and just think (as all kiddies do) that they're invincible and won't die. Get a clue, kiddies, it happens (death) to everyone! You just don't have to accelerate it or blame it on the truckers. Get off your cellphones! And that's why I won't buy a motorcycle even though I could pay cash for it -- 90% of who you see coming at you is on the phone. Dangerous!
December 21 2012 at 9:09 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWOW! I am surprised that not more lives were lost, by looking at some of these pictures, many people were (are) very lucky to be alive!!!! Scarey, puts a whole new light on how life can change in the blink of an eye.
December 20 2012 at 6:54 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyIts amazing how fast everyone blames the trucker. 1st of all if it was not for these men and woman you would have NOTHING! Everything you buy or use was brought by a truck driver. My husband is a driver and has had a good record. There a a few that do do things that they should not but a majority of truckers are people earning a living and are family men or woman. I have been with him and seen how people cut him off and pull out in front of him. Semis fully loaded are 80,000Lbs of steel and product. They can not stop on a dime! Just 2 years ago some SUV just because they had 4 wheel drive though they could drive faster in snow. They went off the interstate crossed the median and hit my hubby just missing his tandems. If she would of hit them he would of been dead!. Also for you who sit in your cars and text in rush hour not such a good idea! Like I said above most truck drivers follow the rules but you can expect to pull out or in front of someone hauling 80,000lbs and expect them to stop on a dime.!
December 20 2012 at 6:39 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyThank you I used to drive 18 wheeler across the country also a lot people don't understand what's its like out there
December 21 2012 at 7:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYes. The SUV drivers! They're nuts (generally) and think they own the roads. Just because you have 4 wheel drive means you can probably get going to a good speed pretty fast but you still cannot stop any faster than anyone else. And stopping's the important thing, right?!
December 21 2012 at 9:12 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyi cant speak for every truck driver ,however i can tell you of my experience with cars,i've had 4 wheelers pull out in front of me at the last second ,i'm as big as a house, and 80,000 lbs on a good day, then you hang-out behind my trailer i cant see you,or you drive in the middle of my trailer, then you wonder why you get clipped, they need drivers ed for 4 wheelers on trucker courtesy.
December 20 2012 at 6:38 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyAmen to you.....Everybody thinks semis are the enemy. My hubby is a driver and have been with him and seen the stuff drivers do..I think everyone should have to spend a day with a truck driver before the are granted a drivers license.
December 20 2012 at 6:54 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyTruck drivers think it is ok to drive 80 mph plus no matter what the conditions...so when they come upon slowed or stopped traffic in blizzard like conditions...this is the result....all trucks should have black boxes like the planes...and in fatalities as such, the black box will tell the story....all you have to do is look at those mangled cars...and see that the truck was not doing no 30 mph in the snow...regardless if the guy cut him off or not...supposed to have control of the vehicle ...and if visibility is blizzard conditions..i think they should be a little slower..but as u see in these pictures....the truck/trucks were flying...whats the saying? a picture paints a thousand words....And im sure the truck drivers lived in this accident their vehicles are upright and fine!!!!!!!!!! get a grip people...in a case like this...it should be considered vehicular homicide!!!!!!..
December 20 2012 at 6:25 PM Report abuse Permalink -4 rate up rate down ReplyYOU ARE WRONG davew2494.ONE TIME I CUT OFF A TRUCK BECAUSE OF MY STUPIDITY WHEN WE WERE DRIVING TO ALABAMA MY DAD CUSSED ME OUT BECAUSE I COULD HAVE CAUSED A ACCIDENT. CARS DON'T LIKE FOR ANYBODY TO PASS THEM , GET IN FRONT OF THEM TRUCKERS HAVE MORE ON THE ROAD TRAINING SO THEY KNOW SAFETY ITS US WHO NEED MORE TRANING. YOU ARE RIGHT jwdupontc074. STAY SAFE EVERYONE.
December 20 2012 at 5:15 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyI agree Rhonda, smart girl. I am a female who used to drive. I had a year of training at a school. It takes a truck a football field to stop. We are put to tons of training and to get a license, we have to drive with a state trooper, take 5 written exams, along with 6 maneuvers. Trust me all truck drivers are not the best. I have had some just push me almost into a jersey turnpike coming out of the toll gate. Ignorant. But still, I watch and stay away from them. People who cut them off is not a good thing, they jack knife easily. Especially a new driver! Trust me up against a truck, you could die and he can just walk away. Though, there are good and bad truckers too. All I know when I drove, I never wanted to hit anyone and we are asked on a test, do we hit a stone wall and possibly kill ourselves or a car? Correct answer is pick the wall. All I know, in some states it is against the law to cut a truck off. Battle between trucks and cars, not a match. He will live and the reckless driver may die. Don't assume they are good drivers, could be very new, so just stay away. They sleep like crap too. They weave, mess with their log books. I don't trust a truck so I avoid them when I can.
