SEASIDE HEIGHTS, New Jersey (AP) - Police have detained a man who apparently climbed the New Jersey roller coaster that was swept into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy and unfurled an American flag.
The man came down from the top of the coaster and jumped into a police boat Tuesday. He was handcuffed, walked through the surf and was escorted to a police car on the beach in Seaside Heights.
News 12–New Jersey says Christopher Angelo told the channel he wanted to raise awareness for storm recovery.
Angelo's mother says her 38-year-old son is a bit of a daredevil.
The remnants of the Jet Star Roller Coaster have become an iconic image of the October storm that ravaged the New Jersey and New York coast.

January 09 2013 at 3:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDon't buy the BS from the haters about patriotism... Fly that flag and keep the eyes on the needs of the people.
the only folks who complain or whine about patriotism like they own it are the folks who ignore the needs of the people in times of disaster, while hiding behind the flag and party dogma.
Storms and destruction are NON-PARTISAN, they are AMERICAN ISSUES. keep the extremists &economic terrorists out of the mix. Vote American not party hacksmanship congress.
Jersey will rise again....... it always does.
All day long for the red, white and blue....

I completely agree with a lot of the prior comments. There wasn't a "NO TRESPASS" sign so he didn't need to be arrested. Considering the coaster is in the ocean rather than land it's not exactly anyone's property. The man was being courageous and was showing respect for all of the tragic loss by putting up a flag. The behavior towards the man shows what kind of country we live in today. Freedom comes with more conditions than people think, it's not truly freedom anymore.

First of all - Where is the NO TRESPASSING sign? (there is NONE) so why would he be treated like a criminal? When he got in the cop's boat he was THROWN DOWN face first and cuffed. No reason to THROW him down as he was NOT RESISTING arrest! It could have been done on a gentle term as he did it out of his heart I would say........

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!
