    This NASA image of the day for March 15 shows gully landforms in a crater on Mars. It was taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter mission. Changes in gullies were first seen in images from the Mars Orbiter Camera in 2006, and studying such activity has been a high priority for HiRISE.

    Dust from the Gobi Desert blew across the coastal plain of eastern China in mid-March 2013. When NASA's Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image on March 14, aerosols were thick over Beijing and the Bo Hai Sea. Although dust hung heavy over the plain, some mountain peaks (such as those of the Taihang Shan) rose above the dust and haze.

The visual is beautiful and symbolic, but the reality is that this photo represents severe upland erosion, probably due to invasion logging or mining upcountry, which should be better managed and hopefully will be with communications like this.
