Expert Explains Mystery Behind Kazakhstan Pentagram

Associated with Satanism, the symbol fired up conspiracy theorists

Mysterious Pentagram in Kazakhstan Explained

An unusual feature in the landscape of northern Kazakhstan has had conspiracy theorists buzzing. On the southern shore of the Upper Tobol Reservoir is a huge five-pointed star. The 1,200-foot pentagram can be seen clearly on Google Maps in an area free of human habitation.

While some speculated that the site was linked with devil worship, archaeologist Emma Usmanova now insists that's not the case.

It is the outline of a park made in the form of a star," Usmanova told LiveScience.

Until 1991 Kazakhstan was a part of the former Soviet Union, where the star was a popular symbol that appeared on buildings and flags.

Am wondering if excessive use of Vodka in this region has anything to do with it?

Wonder what person invented Satan? Who first drew a picture of the Satan? Who are these people who talk about Satan?
In my home town we had two high school who mascot were Devils. Red and Blue Devils.
Some Christian people were upset about this. But nobody paid them any attention. Why not just called them, The Boogie Man.

A pentagram is not a satanic symbol. This symbol is used by the people who practice Wicca, and probably is used in other cultures as well. A satanist will invert a pentagram or a cross, turning it upside down.

I have read that Venus traces a "perfect pentagram" through the sky and was demmed a satanic symbol by the Catholic Church

Agreed. Although you can't really invert a pentagram.

First, they're looking at the symbol wrong. The shot looks like a Satanic pentagram, but in reality if you tilt your head to the right, you'll see the Pagan pentagram pointing north of the island.

Idiot "reporters" don't even know directional points. Sheesh....

there are a lot of people who believe that depending on how it is drawn it dose different things. it could be protection from what some might call supernatural, or it could be believed to bring power to you. but there are many different cultures in the world that believe a lot of different things. some even think that that it symbolizes 5 elements of witchcraft. it just depends on what you choose to believe. personally I like the version that symbolizes protection.

What's wrong with it being simply a "patriotic" gesture created during the old Soviet Republic era?

This is probably not a park, looks more like an old abandoned Surface to Air Missile site.
