Vintage Space: The First Sucessful Space DockingTechnology comes together far above the Earth
Way back in March of 1966, NASA helped pave the way for the delivery. That was when the agency first docked two spacecraft in orbit. The Agena Target Vehicle -- seen as the long, cylindrical craft here -- successfully docked with Gemini 8, shown in the foreground.
The ability to dock was integral to the success of the forthcoming mission to the Moon, Apollo 11 in June of 1969.
