In September 2013, filmmaker Stian Rekdal traveled more than 3,400 miles through Iceland and captured over 40,000 photos of the country's haunting landscape. Rekdal then produced this striking time-lapse video showing monstrous waterfalls gushing toward Earth, star trails and the Aurora Borealis streaking across the night sky and sweeping views of Iceland's stark, otherworldly beauty.
In a world where time-lapse videos are growing ever more omnipresent, this one still manages to leave viewers breathless. It's the stuff armchair travelers' dreams are made of: extraordinary footage of a remarkable landscape.
