Watch: Dazzling Time-Lapse Video of Hawaii's Mauna KeaThe volcano's 11 telescopes create a stunning, otherworldly landscape
Thirteen telescopes operated by 11 countries dot the 14,000-foot summit of Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano on Hawaii's Big Island. With its dry, cloud-free air and stable atmosphere, the spot offers astronomers one of the world's best places to study the night sky. This time-lapse video, taken by University of Hawaii graduate student Sean Goebel, showcases the incredible views from atop the volcano. The footage was shot on three consecutive nights in April 2013 and another four nights during the summer of 2013.
