Look: Saturn Like You've Never Seen It

The Cassini spacecraft captured this striking perspective on Oct. 10. 2013

NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute. Assembled by Gordan Ugarkovic
This jaw-dropping image of Saturn was created by astronomical image processor Gordan Ugarkovic using a mosaic of red-, green- and blue-filter images of the planet taken by the Cassini spacecraft on Oct. 10, 2013.

The striking image has been garnering much praise and attention for its unique perspective. Shot from above Saturn's north pole, the image allows us to see the planet hovering in the midst of - and separate from - its rings. This view is impossible to see from Earth. The image also gives startling clarity to Saturn's rings, as well as to the bands circling the planet of the planet's atmosphere.

I really hope some of these become available in poster or large photo size. What beautiful images to have in my home matted and framed. They are not only unbelievable scientifically, but artistically. Absolutely breath taking!

Tch, tch, tch, could not the image be at least a bit more decor savvy in line with the season, the planet could be pictured in Hannibal Lector flesh tones with rings of magenta with a field of exorcist green?
