On October 17, 2013, Typhoon Francisco skirted around Guam, but the storm was headed on a track that could bring it toward Japan next week. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aquasatellite acquired this image of the storm at 2:05 p.m. local time.

At the time the image was captured, the storm had maximum sustained winds near 98 mph and was expected to strengthen in the coming days. Current models are predicting that Francisco could hit Japan Wednesday or Thursday of next week, though these predictions remain uncertain.
