Watch: 'Superpod' of 1,000 Dolphins Swims Next to Ferry

See footage of this rare sight in British Columbia

A massive superpod of about 1,000 dolphins treated passengers aboard a ferry in British Columbia to an extraordinary sight last week, swimming next to the ferry for several minutes. One of the passengers captured the scene on video.

According to the CBC, this species of white-sided dolphin is known to form large pods, but it's rare that such an enormous pod would be spotted in the Strait of Georgia, where the BC Ferries vessel was traveling. Typically, pods of this size are seen in open waters. In January, a whale watching tour boat was overtaken by a stampede of dolphins, an incident that was also captured on video by the boat's underwater "viewing pods."
