Ice Storm Glazes Part of Northeast Wednesday

The storm has been responsible for multiple accidents and road closures

A weak storm moving through the Northeast brought ice and dangerous travel Wednesday morning in part of the mid-Atlantic and will bring snow into the evening in central and northern New England.

The storm has been responsible for multiple accidents and road closures in parts of western and central Pennsylvania early on Wednesday.

A combination of freezing rain, sleet and a bit of snow on cold ground and in sub-freezing air turned roads and sidewalks into a sheet of glass in central and eastern Pennsylvania, upstate New York, northern Maryland and northern New Jersey Wednesday morning.

In many cases, roads became a sheet of ice in a matter of minutes.

Ice, Snow Advisories and Warnings

Rising temperatures Tuesday afternoon has allowed the ice to melt over the mid-Atlantic and avoid the major cities along I-95.

However, the storm will bring snow and a wintry mix to parts of central and northern New England and eastern upstate New York into Wednesday evening.

Snowfall Through Wednesday Night

While less dangerous than a thin glaze of ice, the snow and wintry mix will bring a new round of travel delays and disruptions to daily activities.

Portions of Maine and New Hampshire could receive as much as half a foot of snow from the storm system.

As the storm strengthens a bit and swings toward the Maritimes, just enough cold air can sneak back in during Wednesday evening to cause a change from rain to snow in part of southern and coastal New England, including the Boston area.

Meanwhile, a clearing sky will allow temperatures to plummet below freezing over much of the Northeast Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Motorists and pedestrians should be on the lookout for areas of black ice on their travels overnight into the morning commute Thursday.

The headline says 'Dangerous' and the second word in the article is 'weak'. When will the media, AOL included stop these insulting baiting FALSE headlines. I can take the baiting, but stop Scaring people into reading your articles. And you wonder why people are leaving AOL in droves.

The weather has become a joke. Every time we get rain or snow it is now a storm with a name. Know why? So AOL et al can report on it and sell ads. No other reason whatsoever.

Just like the 'feels like' temperature lies. The false wind chill numbers that are so Vastly false its beyond reason.

Dont insult us. We arent all that dumb. The 'See what Happened to X?!?!' headlines are really an insult.

car nut

I hope everyone stays home so I can go somewhere. Tired of idiots that don't know how to drive going 5 mph. If you can't drive, stay home. Today people are wimps about the weather, nothing like 40 years ago when you went to work/school no matter what. Its the ones that got their license out of a gum ball machine, that makes it dangerous for the rest of us!

the pile ups should not be happening...because if any of you have lived in New England all of your lives...in the 70's and 80's did not here about lack of road treatment salt...and people were first priorty...safet;y was first...the streets and walk ways was done much better...modernization has come and all of a sudden there are major problems to shortage...what's important to our leaders...today...in my community there was no sand, salt or anything put down for the safety of those that live in this complex...shame...they do not see to care about the physically challenged...but they keep taking the pay checks...got a job to keep the streets clean...and they do half jobs...its ashame...things that make you go hmmmmmm...why is so many so angry...its winter...and the news stations are pitiful...they grumble about snow and summer...keep a watch out for them...instead of incouraging us to hang in there...telling us to stay safe...and giving advise on how to stay safe and healthy thru all of this...their complaints are mixed with that in the atmosphere and you get what...no help....its time for change...keep a good spirit people...and if you have any cat litter walk with it...throw it down when and where you walk...we should not have to be bound to our homes and apartments...use wisdom and common sense...lets start investing in cleets to walk in the ice and snow...we need to be safe...snow shoes...lets invent something to melt the snow and ice...we will be paid...start thinking people...I am...who need slips and falls because of the slippery sidewalk ways and streets the lazy workers took a job to complain about instead of doing their jobs...its call dishonesty and stealing...every job one takes we should always put our best foot forward...because we represent ourselves...on the job...and we should always keep a good attitude and be moral builders...and how well we know...we can all have a pity party...see the problem, talk about it and do nothing about it...its time to do something...I respect all of you who may read this and hope that I have enlighted and lifted someone up...be not depressed...this snow to will pass...its WINTER IN NEW ENGLAND...and there will not be a water shortage...right...and who is to say how much snow we are suppose to get in the winter...no one knows all of that...so to say its enough...then I'd like to see you control it...God Bless you all

All of you nuts that can and can't drive remember: You are the exception. You should be driving while nobody else should be. That way all of you exceptions can beat the 40 car pile up on I-70 the other day, the 50 car pile up on I-80 yesterday and the 50 car pile up in Atlanta last two weeks. Go for the record!! All you exceptions get out there and drive. These warnings do not apply to you.

suppose everyone goes into their garage ,finds that unused tire and we all light them on fire.Do you think the rising clouds of acrid black smoke would punch a hole in the ionosphere and let some warmth in.I'm tired of being cold.
