Photographer Richard Gottardo spent the winter camping out in Revelstoke, British Columbia, hoping to photograph the aurora borealis over the Rocky Mountains. He finally captured the phenomenon on April 13, 2013 -- just days before he was set to leave. While waiting for the northern lights, Gottardo turned his attention to creating images of star trails.
