Clouds

Hovering high above the mountains, these unusual clouds look like something from another world. With their smooth, saucer-like shape, the cloud formations could easily be mistaken for UFOs, but they're actually a rare natural phenomenon known as lenticular clouds. Known scientifically as "altocumulus lenticularis," the curious clouds are formed when air temperatures drop and moisture droplets are pushed up a steep slope by high winds. Australian storm chaser Michael Bath captured a series of striking photographs of a large supercell thunderstorm in western Oklahoma on April 22. Bath followed the rotating thunderstorm through Arnett and Clinton, Okla., and caught menacing shots of lightning and clouds from the severe storm. He shared photos of the event to his Facebook page, writing, "Jimmy Deguara and I chased a supercell from Arnett to east of Clinton, OK today. No tornadoes but awesome structures!."
